Grand Living Realty has just completed another very successful holiday gift drive collecting hundreds of items for troops serving over seas.  This is the sixth year for the annual Holiday Troops Gift Drive to help make the season brighter for service men and women serving the country halfway around the world.

“It’s easy to forget the brave soldiers who serve when these wars are distant and seem to be going on forever, now officially America’s longest running war,” said Lindsay Dolamore, Grand Living Realty CEO/Broker.  “Their sacrifice is not lost on our team, the residents of Grand Haven, and the many other people across Flagler County that join in this effort to send gifts of thanks to those serving overseas on our behalf.”

The drive began from a conversation Grand Living Realty agent Patsy Moden had with another Grand Haven resident who had a family member, Doug Beaven, serving in Afghanistan. He and Moden connected across the globe via email and the discussion turned to how many of his fellow soldiers often received very little from home for Christmas.

“I just thought that was so sad to have young people risking their lives far from home and not having the joy of receiving gifts for Christmas,” said Moden. “I went to Jim Cullis (Grand Living Realty President) with the idea of sponsoring a gift drive and he immediately embraced the idea. He and Lindsay, along with the rest of the team here, the Grand Haven Women’s Club and many many others have continued with huge support for this effort.”

Moden said the drive is a major undertaking once all the gifts are collected. Hundreds of items have to be organized, boxed and made ready for international shipping. Then it all has to be transported to the post office where customs forms require a major team effort to complete.

“It’s quite a bit of cost to ship all the boxes but Grand Living Realty gladly steps up every year to cover that expense and ensure everything arrives to the soldiers for Christmas,” said Moden.

This year items are being sent to troops in both Iraq and Afghanistan as the U.S. effort to battle the Taliban and ISIS continues in both countries.  Grand Living Realty is sending over 30 boxes full of items from candy to clothing and much more to make the holidays a little brighter for our troops.
